If your household has a Disney lover who knows every word to Let It Go or We Don’t Talk About Bruno, you’re not going to want to miss this!

Disney On Ice is bringing Magic of Family to Legacy Arena at The BJCC Nov. 12–15, with six performances featuring Frozen, Encanto, Mickey and Minnie, Stitch and more.

And if you’ve been around Birmingham for a while, you probably know the drill: Disney On Ice is one of those family events that can get a lot harder — and more expensive — to plan if you wait too long.

Tickets are on sale now, so if this is the kind of thing your kids would lose their minds over, I’d pick your show and seats while you still have plenty of options.

What makes this one worth it?

Magic of Family brings some of Disney’s biggest stories to the ice.

Anna and Elsa head back to Arendelle, Mirabel and the Madrigal family bring Encanto to life, and Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy host the show. Stitch and Angel add some chaos and comedy along the way.

Expect figure skating, acrobatics, aerial stunts, elaborate costumes, big production numbers and plenty of songs your kids already know by heart.

Basically: if your child currently lives in a Disney universe, they’re going to be pretty into this.

And that’s what makes Disney On Ice such an easy win for a family outing. You don’t have to convince the kids it’s going to be fun. They already know these characters.

Pick your show

There are six performances, including three daytime options:

• Thursday, Nov. 12 — 7 p.m.
• Friday, Nov. 13 — 7 p.m.
• Saturday, Nov. 14 — 11 a.m.
• Saturday, Nov. 14 — 3 p.m.
• Sunday, Nov. 15 — 1 p.m.
• Sunday, Nov. 15 — 5 p.m.

For families with younger kids, I’d strongly consider a daytime show. An 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. performance can turn into an entire Birmingham family day without pushing bedtime into questionable territory.

A few things to know before you go

• Kids 2 and older need a ticket. Children under 2 generally don’t need a ticket when sitting on a parent’s lap.
• Legacy Arena is cashless, so bring a credit or debit card for concessions and merchandise.
• And don’t cut it too close. Give yourself time for downtown parking, getting into the arena and security — especially for the weekend shows.
• The show typically runs about 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours, including an intermission.

The Trussville Moms take

There are plenty of family events where you can wait until the week before and figure it out.

We wouldn’t put Disney On Ice in that category.

If your kids are Disney kids, buy the tickets now. You’ll have the best shot at getting the date, time and seats you actually want — instead of explaining six weeks from now why you’re sitting somewhere your child needs binoculars. 😂

And if you want to make it a whole family day, pick a daytime show, head into Birmingham for lunch afterward and let the kids ride the Disney high all the way home.
