New “Trump Accounts” Are Now Live: Here’s What Parents Need to Know
As moms, we’re always thinking about our kids’ future — whether it’s saving for college, helping them buy their first home someday, or just trying to give them a little financial head start.
The new Trump Accounts are now available, and if you have children, this is something you’ll probably want to know about.
Every eligible baby born between 2025 and 2028 receives $1,000
If your child was born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, they may qualify for a $1,000 federal contribution to get their account started.
The money isn’t automatically deposited—you’ll need to open the account and complete the enrollment process to claim it.
You can open an account for any child under 18
Even if your child wasn’t born during those dates, you can still open a Trump Account for them and begin investing.
Parents, grandparents, and others can contribute up to $5,000 per child each year, allowing the account to grow over time through investments in a broad U.S. stock market index fund.
What happens when they turn 18?
When your child reaches age 18, the account becomes theirs.
At that point, they can continue investing for retirement or use the money for certain qualifying expenses, including:
- College or other education expenses
- A down payment on a home
- Starting a business
- Or they can simply leave it invested to continue growing for the future.
How do you sign up?
Enrollment is now open. If you have a baby who qualifies for the $1,000 contribution — or you’re interested in starting an investment account for any of your children — you can learn more and get started at TrumpAccounts.gov or through your IRS online account.
Whether you choose to contribute a little each month or simply claim the $1,000 for an eligible newborn, it’s another option for families looking to invest in their children’s future.
